And The World Will Be A Better Place

And the world will be a better place

For you and me...
You just wait and see...

So I'm sitting in McDonalds doing some work while my kid is playing in the "Playland" area and having a great time with some other kids and a couple of things hit me.

First, it constantly amazes me how easily kids make friends.

As adults, sometimes people forget the power of just introducing yourself and saying hi. I go to a lot of networking events and I see people standing around doing nothing all the time. In a room full of 50 people, I still see people standing alone. It's as if we forgot what it was like to be a kid... forgot how to talk to people. I know part of this is because we're always told never to talk to strangers... and as we grow up, some people take that lesson to heart and never speak to anyone. I, personally, love meeting new people. There's just not enough of me to go around and experience everything, so I love hearing other people's stories.

If you get nervous meeting new people, then just go to a kid's play area and watch the kids. The local mall, McDonald's, parks... they're full of kids. Pay attention to how they just instantly make friends. There's not preconceived notions, no expectations, no judgements. Just a hey... let's be friends and play together.

Take note of kids and go forth and network.

Speaking of which, our next Entrepreneur Success Network Business Afterhours event is coming up soon! On April 25, 2013, we'll be partnering up with the Hoffman Estates Junior Chamber of Commerce again to host a Business Networking Fundraiser. This time we'll be donating all proceeds to The Blackhawk Foundation which raises money for handicapped children. The investment to attend is only $10 and light appetizers and a cash bar are once again available.

Here's the registration link:

Be a kid again and come and network with some like minded individuals.

By the way, the second thing that came to my mind was how perfect a song Jackie DeShannon's Put A Little Love in Your Heart (from 1969) is for Entrepreneurs.

At our recent workshop, "The Way of the Entrepreneur", we talked about how Entrepreneurs have a burning desire for something. In my experience, the entrepreneurs that succeed are the ones who have a burning desire for something greater than their current situation.

Have you ever wanted more in your life? More for your family and friends? Well then find out what that "Little Love" or burning desire is in you and start pursuing it. And work to make the world a better place for you and me...

Put A Little Love In Your Heart

When you follow your heart and passion and start doing what you love, you'll be amazed at how wonderful life can be. Yes, there will be trials and tribulations and when you have a burning passion, vision, and commitment to succeed, wow!!!!

So just put a little love in your heart and just wait and see...

Communication Is Key!

Hey everyone!

Rollo May once said, "Communication leads to community, that is, to understanding, intimacy and mutual valuing."

On that topic, we've failed you in the past.  And for that, we apologize... and we will make sure that doesn't happen going forward.

Two weeks ago, you were told to expect a big announcement in a week.  Well, as we said, that was two weeks ago.   Turns out rebranding is a LOT bigger task than initially expected.  And if you haven't figured it out yet, that's exactly what we're doing... rebranding!

So the big announcement is that the Chicago Entrepreneur Meetup Group is no longer going to be the Chicago Entrepreneur Meetup Group.  Why?  Because we've grown beyond Meetup.  This group started in 2003 as the Chicago Entrepreneur Meetup Group.  Since then, it's changed hands a few times and has had many organizers and co-organizers.  For over 7 years, this group was soley on Meetup.com.  The last time it changed hands was back in 2010.   Since then, we've expanded to LinkedIn, Twitter, Youtube, Facebook and more!  Because of this, we're no longer just a group and no longer just a Meetup Group.  We're now a Network!

So welcome to the Entrepreneur Success Network!

With this new network, we're focusing on better communication, interaction, and engagement with you... our members.  We'll be sending out regular communications on what's going on and upcoming events.  In addition, as we all know, entrepreneurs exist everywhere!  And while we're headquartered in the Chicagoland area, we want to be able to share our message with entrepreneurs everywhere.  That's why we're the Entrepreneur Success Network and not just the Chicago Entrepreneur Success Network.

Going forward, we'll be refocusing on three things.

First, we're focusing on providing more great content and information to everyone.  We'll be doing this through regular communications via our networks with a primary focus on our Website at http://www.EntrepreneurSuccessNetwork.com and our LinkedIn Group for discussions.  So if you haven't joined it yet, please join our LinkedIn group by going to http://bit.ly/EntrepreneurSuccessNetwork.

Second, Networking events.   Networking events are important for people to attend, interact, and meet others.  Networking events are the start of relationship building, future business, and resource connections.  So to that end, we'll be having an After hours Networking event every quarter and work on promoting it well to get people out.  These will be in a fun and relaxing environment, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the next one coming soon.

And third, we're focusing on workshops and trainings.  There's a great need out there to educate current and future entrepreneurs on how to run their business.  Whether you're just starting your business or you've been in it for a while, there's always something new you can learn.  We're excited about the upcoming workshops which will focus on the Entrepreneurial mindset, Business Structures and Financing, Leadership Development, Sales and Marketing, and Time Management, Organization, and Prioritization.  In fact, we've reviewed Entrepreneurial programs from Universities across the country and combined real life entrepreneurial experiences to design workshops which you can use and understand.

These are exciting times for us and we're so happy you're a part of our group.  You'll start seeing changes coming down the line and we'll keep you abreast of them.

So stay tuned for more great information coming your way.

Until then,

Celebrate Life!

I Gotta Guy…

Need a plumber?  I Gotta Guy.

Need a handyman?  I Gotta Guy.

Need an accountant?  I Gotta Guy.

Need an attorney?  I Gotta Guy.

Need a (FILL IN THE BLANK)?  I Gotta Guy.

You Gotta Guy?  Or are you that guy?

Are you Lucky enough to be that person?

Do you want to be that guy or gal who’s Gotta Guy?

Well you should.

Hey, everyone knows it isn’t what you know that counts, it is who you know.  Your goal in networking should always be the person that people know.

You know, that person that people is always surrounded by people at networking events; that person that everyone seems to know when they walk into a room; that person that seems to always know everyone and that everyone knows; that person pulled you into a group because they said you looked lost.

If you’re in business, that should be you.

You’re right!  I need to be go to this event and be that Guy.

Registration is only $15 and it's always free for members and first time attendees.

As the “Golden Rule of Networking” states, “All things being equal, people will do business with, and refer business to, those people they know, like and trust.”

Networking is not about the Hard Sell, it is not about making sure that the person you have come in contact with is your next sale.  It is about Relationships and getting to know people.  Getting to understand them, and their business and how you can help them.

That’s right, it’s about helping people.

On page 92 of the book the Go Giver by Bob Burg (If you have not read it by now, go out, buy it, and read it – it’s good stuff), he shares probably one of the most important piece of advice you can get, “As long as you’re trying to be someone else, or putting on some act or behavior someone else taught you, you have no possibility of truly reaching people.  The most valuable thing you have to give people is yourself.  No matter what you think you’re selling, what you’re really offering is you.”

I’m going to be a Go Giver and be that Guy!  Register me now.

And if you say you’ve have been Networking for years and you know what you are doing… that you’re that “GUY”.   Are you sure?   Are you really sure?

Ask yourself the following questions:

1. When was the last time someone asked you for help that was totally outside of what would normally be your area of expertise?
2. Has anyone asked you to “put the word out” that someone was in need of a job?
3. Had someone come to you because they were told you could help them?
4. People showed up at an event that you were hosting, because you were hosting?

Hey, a lot of people may think that Networking is nothing more than a popularity contest and that’s just not true.  You want to find out how to really network, how to be that go to “GUY” in case you aren’t, then you need to come out to the next Chicago Entrepreneur Meetup Group event.

At this fantastic event, you’re going to find out how to determine if you are that “GUY” and if not, how you become that “GUY”.

In fact, we’ve gotta “Guy” coming that’s going to tell you all about it.  She’s been networking for years.  People know of her before they know her.  You need someone, she’s got someone.  She’s that “Guy” and she’s going to spill the beans on how you can become that “Guy” – even if you’re a gal.

And hey, listen, even if you’re not interested in becoming that “Guy” (and you should be), then come to the next meeting anyway and see if you can’t be hooked up with a guy for your business.  Really, how much is hooking up with the right guy for your business worth to you?

The Chicago Entrepreneur Meetup Group is all about you meeting and connecting with people and resources for your business.  Come out for a great presentation and then stay for the networking and make some connections.

You need a “Guy”?  We gotta guy.

See you at the event!
